Pascoe Vale South Landscape Refresh

Modern Landscape Refresh for a Classic 1950s Pascoe Vale South Home

Every home has a story, and the outdoor space should be the perfect introduction to it. We recently had the pleasure of working on a stunning post-war weatherboard home in Pascoe Vale South, giving it a much-needed modern landscape refresh.

While the property boasted a beautiful, mature garden space, it had unfortunately become overgrown and a little unloved over time. Our mission was clear: restore the original character of the home while engineering a highly practical, functional, and timeless front yard.

Here is how we brought this Pascoe Vale South transformation to life.

Structural Elegance: Custom Brickwork & Durable Foundations

To complement the classic 1950s weatherboard aesthetic, we wanted to use materials that felt native to the era but built for the future.

Curved Brick Retaining Walls & Pathways

We constructed a striking curved, double-skin brick retaining wall, paired with matching brick stairs and pathways. To guarantee this beautiful brickwork stands the test of time against the elements, everything was built on top of strong, reinforced concrete foundations. This ensures maximum long-term durability and prevents shifting over time.

Enhanced Driveway Access

Practicality is just as important as aesthetics. To improve vehicle access and overall usability, we installed a seamless topping driveway extension. Finished with a clean, exposed aggregate look, it ties in perfectly with the home’s original brickwork and architectural character.

The Greenery: Layered Planting & Smart Irrigation

A structural landscape is only as good as the softscapes that surround it. To bring warmth and life back into the front yard, we completely overhauled the lawn and garden beds.

  • Premium Turf: We laid lush, durable Sir Walter Buffalo turf, perfect for the local Melbourne climate.

  • Smart Irrigation: To keep the landscape thriving year-round with minimal effort, we installed fully automated irrigation systems throughout both the lawns and the garden beds.

  • Soft, Layered Planting: We curated a layered planting palette designed to soften the structural brick elements and add depth to the front facade.

The Finishing Touches: A Contemporary Twist

To bridge the gap between classic post-war charm and modern design, we introduced rustic, corten-style planters.

Spilling over with cascading silver Dichondra and vibrant seasonal annuals, these planters add a gorgeous, soft contemporary touch. The contrast between the rich, rusted metal tones, the silvery foliage, and the traditional brickwork elevates the entire home's curb appeal.
